About Us

David Lemke

Five years after a severe back injury in 1980, Dave went on to study as a massage therapist. His motivation? To be close to the only therapy that provided even temporary relief from constant pain. Then after ten years of practice in Canada, “successfully” treating thousands of pain sufferers by hand, Dave was provided with information from a kinesiological surface electromyography evaluation performed on one of his most challenging clients. Frustrated and at a loss for better ideas (and trusting the data), he added manipulation of a previously unaddressed muscle which produced a breakthrough in a single treatment: that single manipulation freed a borderline frozen shoulder and eliminated nearly all the pain – and the results lasted. Until that point it had been a frustrating game of “chasing the pain” i.e. not getting to the root cause. Excited by this breakthrough he went on to study as an sEMG technician in order to conduct his own tests and learn exactly what the muscles were doing when people were in pain. Information from his testing enabled development of a treatment sequence for the shoulder that ended up in studies at Idaho State University. Experience with the technology and privileges that came with the university’s research provided access to every muscle function study of interest available at the time. This allowed Dave to dig into the work of all the world’s muscle research and develop a unique model of functional assessment using sEMG.

Since the 1990′s, Dave’s treatment has been relied on by top performing athletes, dancers and martial artists, those recovering from orthopedic surgeries, and generally stressed individuals. As a passionate interest, Dave has enjoyed working with select special education teachers treating motor coordination problems in children diagnosed with learning disabilities.

Current Projects

Dave currently has two offices – one in Wimberley and one in Westlake Hills in Austin. His main location (Wimberley) is in the beautiful studio formerly known as Heart of Texas Yoga -. His focus is helping junior and professional athletes achieve and maintain their highest function and performance. His Sport Neuromuscular Treatment is the sports application of Functional (Fun!) NMT which he provides for anyone who needs their body to function better. Dave’s work includes fNMT treatment and Kinesiological Surface EMG training and consulting.

Dave is a Certified Dartfish Video Coach and uses slow motion video analysis of biomechanics in athletics and rehabilitation. He has used kinesiological sEMG (computer aided muscle analysis) in testing of exercise equipment, devices, and new treatment procedures as well as trained hundreds of specialized massage therapists for physical therapy and complementary healthcare clinics. He was the primary consultant to Champions Sports Medicine (Dr. P.Z. Pearce, Ironman Medical Director, Spokane, WA) in the creation of their Biomechanics lab.

Dave and his wife Andi have raised four sons and they are all very interesting people.
